I am a new Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Miami. Previously, I was a Wu Tsai Institute postdoctoral fellow at Yale University, working with Profs. John Murray and Amy Arnsten. I completed my Ph.D. in 2021 under the mentorship of Mark D’Esposito at the University of California, Berkeley. My research focuses on how prefrontal cortex circuitry supports successful working memory behavior and the remarkable flexibility of human cognition. I am also an avid mountain and road biker, often thinking about research problems while on two wheels. [Google Scholar] [cv]
Graduate Student
Courtney is a first-year graduate student in the Clinical Psychology program. She received a bachelor's degree in Psychology and Chemistry from Fordham University and then worked as a postgraduate associate in the Cho Lab at Yale University. Her previous research focused on investigating the neural correlates of cognitive deficits in psychosis spectrum disorders. In graduate school, she aims to continue using precision neuroimaging tools to study cognitive processes and clinical disorders. Outside from research, she enjoys working out as well as coaching young children in swimming.
Research Associate / Lab Manager
Hi, my name is Esmeralda, and I recently graduated from the University of Florida (go gators!) with degrees in Statistics and Psychology. I'm a very curious person who is deeply passionate about uncovering the closest thing we have to the truth by using math and data. I’m excited to utilize neuroimaging and statistical analysis to uncover insights about working memory and cognition as part of the JAM lab!
[your name here!] See below for recruitment opportunities and get in touch via email if you are interested in joining the lab at any level!
Interested in studying the cognitive and neural architectures for memory and higher-cognition? We will be considering potential PhD student applications for Fall 2026 cohort. If you are interested, please contact me via email with your research interests and experience if you think you'd make a great fit. You can apply here by Dec. 1st, 2025 (through Cognitive and Behavioral Neuroscience track)!

Interested in studying the cognitive and neural architectures for memory and higher-cognition? We are looking for dedicated undergraduates interested in getting involved in research at U-Miami! To inquire about opportunities, please send a resume and brief description of your interest in the lab and research via email. Students from all backgrounds are encouraged to reach out if they are interested, and any background or experience with scientific programming languages (Python, R, Matlab) is especially helpful.
